Cabo San Lucas - 2/25/2022

It was checkout day.  Since we rented a condo, we had to clean up a bit and get everything in order.  Usually, we just pack our suitcases and go.  We had to check out a day early, so we were staying at a Marriott downtown.  We also had to get our COVID tests.  We tried to see our favorite server, Alejandro Garcia, who is at a different resort, but we weren't allowed in the resort.  It was very sad for us as he's taken good care of us over the years.  So, we decided to go back to Cabo San Lucas, get some lunch and check into the hotel. We decided to stop at Tacos Guss, which is always good.  Unfortunately, I decided to get a torta, but it was much different than the tortas we have in Mazatlan.  Honestly, the tortas in Mazatlan are our favorite.  I didn't personally like this torta, but that's ok.  It was my choice.  After lunch, we decided to try to checkin to the Marriott early.  The hotel was hosting boys soccer teams, so it was crazy busy.  We waited in the lobby to g

We decided to take a drive from Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos.  We've never been outside of Cabo San Lucas as there is so much to do there.  Todos Santos is a quiet "artsy" town with a real down home charm.  We weren't sure what to expect, but figured why not.  The drive is about one hour north along the Pacific Ocean.  On Google maps, the road looks like it runs along the ocean and it sort of does, but not as close as you would think.  There's not much between Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos, so not many places to stop along the way.  The road is mostly highway. When we got to Todos Santos, the charm was immediate.  I had forgotten that the Hotel California (Eagles song) was there.  We drove around a bit because like any Mexican town, parking is not easy to find.  We decided to have lunch at Tequila Sunrise.  At first, it looked like a "touristy" restaurant, but trust me, the family owned vibe was noticeable.  Debbie had a chili riellno stuff with chee

Today was a quiet day for us.  We decided to hang out by the pool for the day and then go to Mi Casa for dinner.  The weather was a bit tricky.  When the sun was out it was warm and felt great.  When the sun was covered by the clouds, it was a bit chilly as it was pretty breezy.  The pool water at the pool for the condo units has been pretty cold.  We brave it and get in to get some exercise.  Not sure if we're dedicated or crazy. We had dinner at Mi Casa, which was probably the best meal we've had this week.  We started out with Queso fundido that had pico de gallo melted in it.  It was served with what I can best describe as oversized tortilla chips and soft tortillas.  We also had fresh guacamole.  For dinner, Debbie had shrimp tacos and I had beef fillet that was sort of like a stew that had been cooking all day.  Both were fantastic!  I decided to get the flan for desert, and it was amazing as well.  We did have palomas with dinner and they were probably the best palomas I

As we usually do when we travel, we don't have a plan until we get up, get moving, eat, and have some coffee.  When we stay at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, we usually grab breakfast somewhere and then find a pool.  We do all inclusive, so we don't have to plan ahead very much.  When we go to the pool at our condo, we have to plan ahead a bit and take food and drink with us.  It's really not a big deal, but adds to the decision making process. We got moving yesterday and I headed to the store to pick up some cleaning supplies that we needed for the condo.  When I left, it was fairly chilly (for Mexico), which made me wonder if we should go to the pool or not.  We decided that rather than go to the pool, we would go to the marina and hit one of our favorite spots, The Usual Suspects, for lunch.  We decided to park at the marina, which we've never done.  The parking is spacious and cheap ($2 for several hours). We've been to The Usual Suspects several times.  The barten

Today we find ourselves finally getting into the vibe of the vacation.  As I said in previous posts, we're staying in a condo this time, so we've spent more time getting food and supplies from the stores than we have in the past.  It's not bad...just different.  We woke up and had breakfast.  Fortunately, thanks to Walmart we have our coffee, which is essential for us.  Breakfast consisted of apple/spinach/feta sausages with sauteed onions, peppers, and jalapenos.  A good way to start the day.   We were lazy as not much to do and no place to go, which we like.  We did some reading and some other relaxing activities.  We have wanted to try out the pool at the condo, so we did that.  We took a couple of Tecate's along with ingredients to make our own palomas.  The pool was empty, so we were able to find the chairs we wanted and swim without anyone else in the pool.  It was much different than when we use our Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach junior suite.  Depending on the day a

The day started with breakfast, which we had on the rooftop patio area.  It was good.  However, they are constructing new units, so a bit noisy.  It's nice being able to eat outdoors in the sun and warmth. The first stop for us was at Walmart.  There were some supplies we could not find at Costco, so we had to hit the local Walmart.  It was interesting to see the layout of the store and how different it is from the Walmart's at home.  There is a liquor store right beside the Walmart, so everything is conveniently in one place.  Interestingly, we could not find tequila salt for the rim of our glasses when we make our palomas.  We found it was very odd because anytime you get a margarita or paloma from a local bar, there is always salt on the rim.  We couldn't find any, so we got some coarse salt at Walmart to get us by.   One of the things we were anxious to do was have lunch at Tacos Guss.  We ate there last year and they have great tacos for about $1.50 each.  Debbie had c

The first day is always filled with a bit of chaos as it's our travel day.  We left Spokane at 5am and arrived in Cabo around 3pm.  The past couple of years have been pretty easy because of reduced travel caused by COVID and travel restrictions.  This year was the busiest I have seen it.  The customs lines were long, but they move quickly.  I am amazed at the number of people that try to get ahead of everyone else in line...like they're the most important person in the world.  It requires a lot of patience, which I am short on (ask Debbie). We typically stay at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach (PBSB) and do the all-inclusive (food and drinks paid for up front), which makes things super easy as it also includes shuttle transportation to and from the hotel.  This year, Debbie found an awesome condo for rent on the Sunset Beach property as a change of pace.  It's in a section of the resort called Mavilla and is a three-bedroom condo (there are only two of us this time) and is privat
