Todos Santos - 2/24/2022

We decided to take a drive from Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos.  We've never been outside of Cabo San Lucas as there is so much to do there.  Todos Santos is a quiet "artsy" town with a real down home charm.  We weren't sure what to expect, but figured why not.  The drive is about one hour north along the Pacific Ocean.  On Google maps, the road looks like it runs along the ocean and it sort of does, but not as close as you would think.  There's not much between Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos, so not many places to stop along the way.  The road is mostly highway.

When we got to Todos Santos, the charm was immediate.  I had forgotten that the Hotel California (Eagles song) was there.  We drove around a bit because like any Mexican town, parking is not easy to find.  We decided to have lunch at Tequila Sunrise.  At first, it looked like a "touristy" restaurant, but trust me, the family owned vibe was noticeable.  Debbie had a chili riellno stuff with cheese and shrimp.  Since I couldn't make up my mind, I had the "Mexican Sampler", which were smaller versions of an enchilada, taco, chimichanga, and a full sized chili riellno stuff with cheese and chicken.  The food did not disappoint, the drinks (margaritas) were awesome, and they brought us flan with a chocolate crust (free of charge).  We did end up skipping dinner because there was so much food at lunch.

After that, we decided to walk around the town and check out the shops.  The center of the town is based on a church and all of the shops surround the church.  There are two things that we didn't realize until we got to Todos Santos.  First, everything starts shutting down at 4pm.  It's not a town for night life.  Second, there is no negotiation on price in any of the stores/markets.  In Cabo, all prices are negotiable.  In Todos Santos, nothing is negotiable.  We didn't know that, so when we tried to bargain, the common response was "fair price" and that was it.  Not a big deal, but just something to note.

The day ended with drinks at the Pacifica hotel on the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach property.  It's adult only, and is much quieter than the main section of Sunset Beach.  We decided that next year we want to try Pacifica.  I'll be booking that on Monday for next year.

Travel Tips

1.  To go to Todos Santos, you will need a rental car.  It's an hour drive on the highway.  Make sure the gas tank is full for a round trip.

2.  Don't expect to negotiate prices.  In Cabo you can, in Todos Santos, they don't do that.

3.  The town pretty much shuts down at 4pm.  It's a great little town, but if you're looking for night life, it doesn't have it.
